MySpace was one of the first social networks to become popular earlier this century. Established in 2003, it had more than 100 million users in 2006 worldwide and was the most widely used social network in the world for years, until its practical disappearance at the end of 2011,when it had just under 30 million users.
The company was bought by Justin Timberlake and underwent a radical redesign to become a music news website, but it was never the same again. Now, with the intention of recovering MySpace, SpaceHey is now born, a social network that recovers traditional style and design, in order to create a platform that is much more respectful of the privacy of its users.
The project has been created by an 18-year-old student who claims to miss the old platform, even though he was only a few years old when he closed his doors. According to its creator, it has studied a lot about the operation and dynamics of MySpace in order to create a social network as similar as possible to the original.
In a text published in producthunt with which he has presented the platform, its creator, An, explains that he has devised SpaceHey to bring some fun and nostalgia in a year that has been especially hard for everyone, due to the pandemic by COVID-19.
In this sense, the operation of SpaceHey is the same as the original MySpace. It is possible to create a totally free profile by entering an email address and password, configure it, with the possibility to use HTML and CSS to customize the profile to the maximum and follow other users or create blog-like entries, as was the case with the defunct MySpace.
In addition, for all those nostalgic who want to relive the original MySpace experience or show their children what the first social networks were like, it is possible to resume it by entering the Web Archive, where copies of the original platform are saved. It is a space that allows you to see how mySpace design evolved over time if you are performing periodic searches.
